The government of Zimbabwe has continued to violate human rights without regard to protections in the country’s new constitution. An expected legislative framework and new or amended laws to improve human rights in line with the constitution never materialized.
Police violate basic rights, such as freedom of expression and assembly, using old laws that are inconsistent with the new constitution. Activists and human rights defenders, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, face police harassment. There has been no progress toward securing justice for human rights abuses and past political violence.
Corruption in Zimbabwe has also injured the human, social and economic rights. The government need to address the corruption as they haven’t done so. People get abused when they go to report their cases to the police just because they can’t afford to bribe the officers to take their cases. Such abuse remain a serious problem in Zimbabwe as the people don’t feel safe.
Police continue to arrest activists. In January, police arrested five activists from four NGOs—Chitungwiza Residents Trust, Combined Harare Residents Association, Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe Trust, and Zimbabwe Human Rights Association—for participating in a demonstration in Chitungwiza. They were later released without charge. Also in January, police arrested 12 leaders of the Zimbabwe National Students Union. The students, who were beaten in police custody, were arrested during a demonstration against poor education standards at Harare Polytechnic College. WOW! Is this the Zimbabwe we will know, is this our future Zimbabwe?

The police do what they like in Zimbabwe. Its just not the police, but the soldiers, and the security and intelligence organisations. They can even get away with murder like they are above the law. Nowadays they just do what they like because they know they are protected and shadowed by the system. So us the civilians will suffer and experience the pain.

I woke up thinking 💭 and pondering on the issues that affect my home country. Zimbabwe is a Christian nation right !?! Which means the masses believe in Christ the Lord …….. The irony is though, This Christ gave this beautiful country to a bunch of wicked thugs, who then created political institutions in order to legitimise their evils under the guise of patriotism. I agree that sanctions have done harm to a great extent yes, but ZANU PF has done more harm than sanctions themselves.
ZANU PF seriously requires restructuring and rebranding as the party has become a haven for criminals and murders, it also carries a lot of dead weight in very old active members who are handed government positions that in fact require young and energetic minds. I don’t think the Mnangagwa administration is God’s response to the nation’s problems. It defies logic to imagine that, God could appoint such a clueless person to lead such a nation full of beautiful fertile lands and vast resources.
Zimbabwe prides itself in having a very educated population, yet it’s peoples intelligences are being utilised by other countries, simply because bad policies of a single political party have reduced the whole economy to debris, subsequently leading to masses fleeing to other countries in search of greener pastures.
#Zimbabwe deserves way better than this leadership!
